Background

Silverstone Design Challenge

This is a national programme delivered jointly by the Silverstone Innovation Centre and Darren Giles of the National School TC College in Nottinghamshire. The competition is aimed at students in 3 age categories: KS2, KS3+4 and Post Sixteen, from schools and colleges across the country. It focuses on the subject of Design Technology with a real world link and is further split into different challenges - all with their own prizes.

Schools may enter as either teams or individual participants. Each applicant submits a written application which is assessed by a panel of 'dragons'. The short listed teams then progress through to the next round which consists of 3 workshops providing the teams with an insight into marketing, presentation skills and business planning before the teams then return to Silverstone for the final. At the final the teams are required to formally present their idea to a panel of 'dragons' using the skills learned at the workshop. Prizes are then presented to the winning school in each category and an overall winner.
